For the uninitiated, Om Shanti Om is a deliciously meta ride. Set in the 1970s, it follows Om (Shah Rukh Khan), a junior artiste and dreamer who is hopelessly in love with the reigning superstar, Shanti Priya (Deepika Padukone in her debut role). After a tragic fire and a murderous betrayal by a jealous producer, Om dies. But the film is only half over. Reborn in the 2000s as the superstar son of a powerful family, Om must confront his past life, avenge Shanti’s death, and reclaim a love that transcends time.
