While the roles of Raj and Simran eventually defined Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol, the casting process was complex. Saif Ali Khan was originally offered the role of Raj but rejected it. Shah Rukh Khan was initially hesitant, as he was known for anti-hero roles ( Darr , Baazigar ) and feared a romantic image would ruin his edgy career. Aditya Chopra persisted, convinced that Khan’s energy could make the character of Raj endearing rather than arrogant. Kajol was cast for her spontaneity and natural screen presence, marking their second collaboration after Baazigar (1993).
In an era of fast-paced thrillers and gritty dramas, DDLJ remains a sanctuary of pure, unadulterated romance. It teaches us that "Dilwale" (the brave-hearted) really do take the bride—and they do it with style, soul, and a whole lot of heart.
