The best SoundFont libraries use the General MIDI (GM) standard. This means Patch #1 is always Acoustic Grand Piano, Patch #34 is Electric Bass (Finger), etc. If you download a GM library, you can immediately play any standard MIDI file (like a backing track from a video game) and it will sound correct.
