During the mid-to-late 1800s, hysteria reached its peak as a recognized medical condition. Doctors of the era, almost exclusively male, prescribed a range of treatments that reflected the era's lack of understanding regarding female anatomy and mental health. The most common "treatments" included:

In extreme cases, and particularly during the early to mid-20th century, more drastic measures were taken, including lobotomy (a procedure now widely recognized as inhumane and ineffective).

Are there specific questions regarding the historical evolution of medical diagnoses, or is there an interest in learning more about the artistic style of this production company?

Below is a blog post developed from that subject line, focusing on the non-explicit, educational aspects of female pelvic health and massage.

    1. I felt this was a very Goonies-ish type episode too with a lot of War Games thrown in with that 80s “evil Russian” premise. I’m not sure if this episode was to change up the pacing and direction leading into the final 3 episodes or not? I think with a massively higher budget they are able to take some more liberties and let the scope of their created world take over – so the writing can back off a little.

In the first season – with a minimal budget – the writing had to be flawless or everything would have collapsed. I think they feel they have a little more leeway now.

Thanks for checking this out though!
